LIBRARY ACCESS POLICIES:
We strive to make the library accessible to all students. We will allow students to use the library during open building hours, regardless of staff presence, providing that the student goes through an orientation with the librarian to become a Volunteer Library Supervisor and agrees to the following responsibilities:
1) To be aware of general library policies as discussed in the Volunteer Library Supervisor Orientation.
2) To agree to the following statements:
In checking out the key to the library:
a) I have gone through the Volunteer Library Supervisor orientation and agree to the guidelines discussed therein during the time the key is checked out in my name.*
b) I will return the key promptly after use to ensure that other students may check it out.
c) If I stay until closing time, I agree that I will lock the library and return the key at least 10 minutes before the building closing time.
d) I will not relinquish the key to any other person throughout the time the key is signed out in my name.
The role of “Volunteer Supervisor” refers to:
a) observing and immediately reporting any irregular or suspicious activity in the library to administration present in the building at that time.
b) maintaining awareness that NO items may be checked out or leave the library during times there is no staff present, and alerting fellow students / faculty of this policy if they appear to be taking an item from the premises. In the case that the policy is not followed, the VLS will log and report the incident in writing to the librarian.
c) During “regular open” hours: keeping the library door open for access to the AIMC Berkeley community. During closed hours: keeping the door closed and locked, Allowing admittance to only those students who have gone through the VLS Orientation*, and ensuring that each person who enters signs in on the VLS check- in sheet.
*All AIMC Berkeley Faculty may use the LRC during building open hours.
